Transfer? `Not me' insists Trott
luring Roger Trott from rivals Bailey's Bay after all.
An article in yesterday's Mid Ocean News quoted the Western Stars captain referring to the Bailey's Bay and Bermuda wicketkeeper-batsman as "my secret weapon'' for the new season.
But Trott, as surprised as anybody to read that he was linked with Stars, yesterday moved quickly to dispel the rumours. He said he trained with Bailey's Bay as recently as Thursday evening and that was where he intended to be playing his cricket this season.
Trott believes the story developed from a conversation he had with Western Stars captain Arnold Manders who mentioned in the article that Trott was frustrated at Bailey's Bay. He said he had never been contacted by Sports Editor Dexter Smith.
"Arnold and I had spoken two or three weeks ago and he asked what I was doing and I said that I was a little frustrated because I am in school and hadn't had the time to put in as much training as I would have liked,'' explained Trott.
"So he said `you might as well check us out' and I said `yeah, I might take you up on that' and just left it at that.'' Trott said he was shocked to read the article -- under the headline "Roger and out! Stars lure Bay ace'' -- that he was joining Stars.
"My phone has been ringing off the hook all day, guys asking `what are you doing?' Now I'll have to make a special trip down there (Bailey's Bay) to reassure them,'' said Trott.
"Bailey's Bay is where I'm going to finish my career, it's where I started, so my heart is there.'' Trott confirmed he wouldn't be vice captain of Bay this season because he didn't have the time to dedicate to the role. He is, however, committed to Bay's cause of winning back the Eastern Counties Cup they lost last year to St. David's.
"We did have a good year last year but because we lost the County Cup everybody feels kind of let down,'' said Trott.
Bermuda Cricket Board of Control's coaching clinics today at Garrison Field will be for managers and coaches of the Shell Youth League teams and not the players as stated in yesterday's paper.
The clinics will be surpervised by coaches Allan Douglas and Wendell Smith and are designed to give managers and coaches vital information to take back to their respective teams.
