Troubled Hotels up next for Trojans

in the league two weeks ago, will have a good chance to take over sole possession of first place in the First Division -- albeit briefly -- when they host Hotels tonight (9.00).

Presently the Trojans hold down top spot only on goal difference over Devonshire Colts, and things might not be too different tomorrow evening after Colts complete their match at Wellington Oval against bottom team Hamilton Parish.

Hotels have new coaches in Myron Piper and Derek Scott following the firing of Clevie Wade a week ago and their first task is to establish more consistency in a team that previously led the division.

Parish are determined to hang onto their First Division place and will only achieve that by not allowing the teams immediately ahead of them to open too much of a gap.

Hotels and Village are not clear of the relegation zone yet and if St. David's and St. George's continue to pick up points then the two mid-table teams could soon be looking anxiously over their shoulders.

Village host St. George's tomorrow at Bernard Park while St. David's will be bidding to stop PHC for the second time in the league this season when they meet them at St. David's.

Present form favours a draw as the Zebras have struggled of late and are now out of the FA Cup.

Tomorrow's other match sees third-placed Dandy Town meeting Boulevard at St.

John's field. Town put Boulevard out of the Friendship Trophy recently so Boulevard will be gunning for revenge.

The top Second Division match sees new leaders Southampton Rangers taking on third-placed Prospect at Southampton Oval.

Struggling BAA are at home to second-placed Vasco while Social Club meet Wolves at PHC Stadium.

A double-header at Devonshire Rec. field sees Paget taking on Port Royal at 1.00 and Devonshire Cougars playing Somerset Eagles at 3.00.

Today's Alliance Division match between Boulevard and North Village has been switched to Bernard Park at 3.00.

The second half of the Shell Youth League started off very poorly with several games not having official referees and a few teams failing to show last weekend.

In the second round of the Knockout Cup in the Mini-Minor A Division there were no surprises as Dandy Town, North Village and Devonshire Colts all advanced to the next round.

Dandy Town, with only 10 players, handed PHC a 2-1 defeat at PHC Stadium as G.Smith and D.Matthews scored for Town while J.Martin replied for the young Zebras.

In a heated game at Frog Lane, Devonshire Colts put the young Peppers of Hamilton Parish to sauce with a 4-2 thrashing. J.Smith led Colts with three goals while R.Spence rounded out the scoring. Village Reds put seven goals past Wolves Yellow without reply.

In Mini-Minor B League action, PHC Blacks picked up their first victory when they hammered North Village Kids 6-3. Hotels beat Devonshire Colts Whites 9-0 with M.Durrant, C.Brown and A.DeSilva each scoring twice. J.Furbert, A.Rego and R.Butterfield assisted with one apiece.

Wolves Black were on form as G.Peniston, R.Roberts and M.Smith combined to give them a 3-1 victory over St. David's.

In the top-of-the-table clash in this division first-placed North Village Whites were soundly beaten 7-0 by St. George's. D.DeSabir scored a hat-trick and G.Harrold, D.Darrell, G.Johnson and C.Harrold all chipped in with one each.

Southampton Rangers beat BAA Whites 5-1 with W.Hill scoring twice in the first half and K.Tucker netting a hat-trick in the second. In the other match Somerset Eagles beat Dandy Town 3-1.

There were two no-shows in Minor Division action and one team had to used their Mini-Minors to field a team. PHC defeated St. George's 4-0 with J.Martin scoring twice and J.Berry and B.Simmons getting one apiece.

Somerset fought hard to squeeze out a 3-2 victory against Wolves, while Devonshire Colts travelled to Dandy Town and pulled off a 9-0 victory with D.Ming and C.Hill both scoring hat-tricks. K.Hollis scored twice and C.Durham rounded out the scoring.

BAA pulled off a surprise 2-2 draw against Paget with B.Irvine and C.Panchard scoring for BAA and S.York scoring both Paget goals.

In the Bantam Division, Devonshire Colts had a battle with St. David's who kept it even until the half before Colts took control on their way to a 5-1 win. J.Aberdeen and J.Francis scored two apiece while J.Tucker replied for the Islanders.

Other results were not reported and clubs are reminded that results must be called in on the voice mail number 291-0690.

On Sunday the Premier Division Knockout Cup match between Devonshire Colts and North Village will be held at Bernard Park starting at 12.30. In the Minors the Devonshire Colts-Somerset Eagles match will be played on January 30 at Frog Lane.

FRONT-RUNNERS -- Rodney Bascome and Somersert will be taking dead aim at Hotels tonight.
