Umpire Butler is off to Antigua
will participate in a three-day seminar organised by the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association.
It marks the second time within three years that Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association have been invited to attend an event of this nature, George Francis and Butler having taken part in previous seminars.
Butler, who is also secretary of the BCUA, is looking forward to the trip as it will enable him to become familiar with the new calculation that will be enforced worldwide for future international one-day matches.
The seminar will be chaired by well known former English Test umpire Nigel Plews while others believed to be playing a major role are current West Indies Test umpires Steve Bucknor and Eddie Nichols.
"One of the main items on the agenda in addition to the updating of rules and regulations is the Duckworth-Lewis calculation which is the format used at the recent ICC Trophy competition in Malaysia,'' said Butler.
"It is the latest system to work out the results for interrupted one-day games and it will be something that all umpires should be looking forward to learning.'' Butler will also get the opportunity to renew acquaintances with members of the WICUA training and examination committee that he was put on three years ago. He currently serves on the Publicity Committee.
Meanwhile, the BCUA have announced that Roger Dill has passed his final written WICUA examination and will now have to sit the oral exam before becoming a fully qualified official.
