But while the American proved to be as sharp as ever in this final, defending champion Vallis struggled somewhat and was forced to play catch-up most of the way.

While the local player remained competitive, Eaton refused to yield and allow his opponents to make inroads on the two-hole lead built up by the time they reached the turn.

Eaton on Thursday advanced to the final by beating another Bermudian Blake Marshall five and three while Vallis got by American David Coates three and two.

On Monday Eaton proved that he would be tough to beat in the tournament this year by firing a superb four under par 67 in the qualifying round.

In Group One Darius Gordyk led the way with a 49, edging out Camiko Smith on retrogression. One stroke back was Daniel Ezekiel on 50.

The Novices played six holes at Belmont where Tariqah Walikraam won with a 34.

Nick Jones was second on 35 and Alex Harlington third on 36.
