Vasco-Village showdown!
semi-final...but at least they were spared having to play the match at their jinx field, Somerset.
The current league champions were matched against North Village while Devonshire Colts will play Southampton Rangers in the other semi-final.
Vasco are out of the running for a third league title and now can only win the FA Cup which they have lifted three times in the last six seasons. They meet North Village in the first semi-final next Tuesday at Devonshire Rec., with the Colts-Rangers match scheduled for Somerset on Tuesday, April 4.
Both semi-finals will be preceded by Crystal Palace semis, defending champions St. George's and Boulevard in the first clash and North Village and Southampton Rangers in the second.
"The thing with Village is they have so much depth, they probably are the best team in the Premier Division in terms of talent,'' acknowledged Vasco coach John Rebello, who admitted that any one of the three teams would have been tough opposition.
"Rangers have been a hard team for us every year and we had our way with Colts once this year but have taken a beating from them, so it didn't matter.
You have four teams in there who, on a given day, can win it.'' But Rebello was relieved the match was not at Somerset where they were hammered 6-0 by Colts in the first leg of the Dudley Eve final and lost again there recently to PHC.
"We have taken some really good thumpings up there, I don't know what it is,'' Rebello conceded.
Village are gunning for the league and FA Cup double while Colts are aiming to hold onto the FA and Friendship titles they won last season. They are already in the Friendship final where they will meet PHC.
