Village have score to settle with Trojans
another cup final after tonight's Friendship Trophy semifinal tie with North Village at PHC Stadium.
The Trojans' last Friendship triumph came against St. George's in early February -- just two days after St. George's beat Devonshire Colts to help the west-enders return to the top spot. Somerset beat Village 1-0 that same day.
Now, just two days after moving back to the top of the First Division, thanks to Village's 4-0 thrashing of Colts and their own 2-1 win over Boulevard, the Trojans are again in a position to show their `gratitude' to a team that helped them take the lead in the title race.
Village obviously will not expect an favours from their high-riding opponents but they will be all the more determined to avenge that recent home loss to the Trojans as they seek to get in their only final of the season.
Somerset, by contrast, are in the hunt for five trophies this season, having already clinched the Martonmere Cup and Dudley Eve Trophy. They will again be without young striker Dwight Basden who is serving the last match of a five-match suspension.
Sunday's win by Village virtually sealed the six Martonmere Cup places for next season and also confirmed them as outsiders for the league -- three points out of first place with three matches remaining. The size of the win over Colts should serve to prepare Somerset for a tough match tonight and no doubt Village will be full of confidence when they step out at PHC Stadium.
The winners will meet either PHC or Devonshire Colts in the final.
Tonight's 7.00 opener sees Prospect taking on Social Club in the Shield semifinal. Both teams were involved in close matches on Sunday, with Social Club edging Port Royal 1-0 and Prospect going down 2-1 to Wolves.
