Village pair set for new adventure
following in the footsteps of professionals Kyle Lightbourne and Shawn Goater.
North Village teenagers Kofi Dill and Jemeiko Jennings, who have both turned out for their club's first team, will spend more than a month in the UK with First Division Charlton Athletic and Second Division Luton Town.
Trials for the two players were arranged by Village official Eugene Joell, who will travel with the pair, and former Charlton coach Colin Clark.
Seventeen-year-old Dill, who plays sweeper, and 15-year-old midfielder Jennings, the cousin of Kentoine Jennings who played in the English League with Hereford, will spend more than two weeks at Charlton before moving on to Luton.
Village spokesman Sherwin Dill, who helped organise a fund-raising match between the club and Bermuda's past and present professionals at Bernard Park last Sunday, said the trip was costing around $10,000.
"We'd like to thank all those who helped to contribute,'' he said. "It's an expensive venture and wouldn't have been possible without those who gave their time and money.'' Dill said he hoped the trials would open the door for more of Bermuda's top young players. "If other youth players show the right potential, we'd like to think we could arrange trials for them, not necessarily just in England.''
