Voth and John Goings to take the fourth annual Kontrast Doubles Volleyball
Tied for first, the Bell/Wheatley-Voth/Goings play-off promised to be a thriller and fans were not disappointed. Bell and Wheatley took first blood by winning the opener 15-12 with Voth and Goings grabbing the second game 15-3.
Then the most dramatic performance of the evening came with the third game deadlocked at 15-15 with Bell and Wheatley breaking through to smash the tie and win 17-15.
On the women's side, pool play ended with Wendy Cummings and Kim Winter Bean in first place. There was a logjam at second with Denise Somerville and KIm Stearns tied with Elisa Stubbs and Lisa Dragon. Somerville and Stearns won the play-off game 11-6 to earn a spot in the finals.
Cummings and Winter Bean proved much too powerful though and notched a pair of victories by identical 11-5 scores.
The next doubles tournament is scheduled for Saturday with the co-ed doubles tournament for May 29. Both tournaments will be played at Shelly Bay and Wes Toavs can be contacted for more information at 295-4070.
The Bermuda Volleyball Association is organising the first annual Corporate Co-ed Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, May 15 at Shelly Bay field. Teams interested in participating must complete a registration form by tomorrow.

BOWLING BOW Mini Forwarders, Pembroke Juniors, Sparks and Warwick Whites rolled to victories on Saturday as the Mott's Sportsmen's League season wrapped up.
Mini Forwarders, with team high series of 2,600, topped Social Club 21-6 on the strength of Steve Wales' high series of 589 and individual high game of 234. Ty Williams grabbed the spotlight for the losers with a 217 game.
Sparks, crowned league champions as first-place finishers, got going behind Mike Lambe's series of 615 and game of 255 to defeat Buy & Sell 181 -81 .
Sparks also posted the team game of 906. Buy & Sell finished the season in second place.
Third-place finishers Pembroke Juniors walloped Warwick Reds 18-9, who lost despite a strong performance from Leon Smith who rolled a 591 series and 243 game.
W.B. Raynor bowled a 562 series in pacing Juniors to their victory. Juniors registered a 2,681 series and 929 game. Reds, meanwhile, posted a series of 2,593 and game of 901.
Warwick Whites dominated Young Blood and scored a resounding 22-5 triumph.

GOLF GLF Top seed Brendan (Bees) Ingham stung Mal Gosling during first-round match play of the Championship Flight at the Mid Ocean Golf Club on the weekend.
Other golfers advancing to the quarter-final round are Alex Lauchlan who defeated Steve Duxbury two-up; Howard DeSilva topped Angus Hyslop two and one; John Wright doubled Tom Stearns two and one; Jack Wahl scored his triumph over J.R. Robinson four and three; Nick Warren was victorious over Craig Curtis three and two and E.M.B. Gosling beat Ian McLean one-up. In another match, Michael Dunkley defeated Barrett Lightbourn.
Quarter-final and semifinal action will take place this weekend with the final round scheduled for May 8.

SOCCER SOC St. David's are asking all current players and others interested in representing them next season to attend a meeting on Monday at 6.30 p.m. with the coach and management committee.
North Village Reds under-12 players are to report to Bernard Park on Saturday at 5 p.m. Also those interested in joining the club are welcome. North Village women's soccer players are to report to the field on Monday at 6 p.m. to discuss plans for next season as well.
