television news story claiming that player-coach Clevie Wade could be about to lose his job.

The ZBM broadcast, presented by newsreader Mike Sharpe, cited anonymous sources to back up its claim that Wade's job was in jeopardy.

Rangers vice-president Keith Wainwright said: "There is no truth in these allegations and the club, the management and the players are 200 percent behind Clevie Wade.

"Things are going well and Clevie Wade is doing an excellent job. Mike Sharpe said this came from an anonymous source and we want to know who that is.'' Wade started his second stint as Rangers player-coach at the start of this season and he was stunned when he heard about the broadcast from club colleagues.

"This has given me a hurt feeling,'' said Wade. "Spirits at this club are high and this is a blow. I have just been training with my team and they are asking me how this can be said when there's no truth in it.

"I feel the story was improper. Before they air stories like that, they should get something from a club official. It is disrepectful to the club and it looks like a stir-up.

"There is no sacking taking place and I don't know where this has come from.

I want to get to the bottom of this and find out who has been saying these things.'' Wade added there was no-one he could think of who might hold something against him and have a motive to make up the rumour which was circulated on television.

"There is no disharmony,'' said Wade. "As far as I know, all of my players are pretty well satisfied with how the programme is going. It seems like someone is trying to get at us.'' Wade, who came from St. George's to Rangers preaching the work ethic and encouraging players to train harder to earn success, said Sharpe had cited a harsh disciplinary regime under him as reason for his unpopularity with the players.

"Every club on the Island has a disciplinary code and every club needs one,'' he said.

Wade's stated aim is to bring the league title to Rangers. Tomorrow they are away to Somerset, aiming to stay two points behind joint leaders Bailey's Bay and St. George's.

The two east end clubs are the only teams with maximum points from three matches. Bay, who hold down top spot on net run rate, should make it four wins out of four when they take on PHC at St. John's Field.

St. George's travel to Police Field to meet the home side who face a busy weekend, meeting Devonshire Rec. today in the second round of the Central Counties.

Unpredictable Flatts take on St. David's at Devonshire Rec. in one of the most interesting matches of the day. After two victories over Willow Cuts, Flatts were brought back down to earth by going down to Somerset Bridge in a low scoring game last weekend. St. David's, with Clay Smith and Allen Richardson in form with the bat, are favoured against their Eastern Counties rivals.

In other matches, Social Club are at home to Western Stars at White Hill, Warwick meet Willow Cuts at Southampton Oval and Cleveland host Somerset Bridge at Wellington Oval.
