Wahoo Tournament -- and organisers have rescheduled the competition for next

All registration rules will be waived and the tournament will be thrown open to anyone normally a resident in Bermuda.

Tournament Director Tom Smith said he was initially worried whether he had made the right call on Sunday morning when he postponed the event but anglers who ventured out later assured him he had made the correct decision.

If bad weather forces another postponement this weekend organisers will make a third -- and final -- attempt to stage the tournament on October 1.

CRICKET CRI Bermuda Regiment's Officer's Mess successfully defended the trophy in their annual cricket match-up against the Warrant Officers and Sergeant's Mess at Southampton Oval on Sunday, winning the 30 overs game by five wickets. Scores: Warrant Officers and Sergeant's Mess 148, Officer's Mess 150-5.

Gordon Campbell was top bat for the champions with 63 not out while Randy Butler followed with 37 and Wayne Smith 19. Terry Fray took two for 29 and Graham Benjamin two for nine.

For the losers Herman Eve struck 48, M.McGowan 31 and Sherwyn Richardson 18.

Roddy More took four for 12.

Glenn Smith's batting average of 85 was good enough to head the Northumberland Cricket League this season.

By pulling off the feat during his first full season with the English club Benwell, the left-handed Bermuda national team member and Bailey's Bay batsman has been quite an investement by Benwell Cricket Club.

Smith, who has interrupted his stay at Benwell several times this season to return home for Eastern County appearances and Cup Match, concluded his league season in style on Sunday with a solid performance against Tynesdale.

Benwell won the game by seven wickets with Smith scoring an undefeated 73 of his team's 110-3 in reply to the meagre 107 posted by Tynesdale.

For the other Bermudians at the club, Dean Minors and Greg Foggo, Sunday's match provided no similar success as both produced ducks.

Smith is listed among the players scheduled to appear in Saturday's testimonial game for Clarence Parfitt, but reports are that he is not certain he will be able to return home in time.
