Welsh and company grab two-stroke win

Vincent Hollinsid and Francis Cassidy won the net division of the Lobster Pot Charity Pro-Amateur Tournament yesterday at Castle Harbour when they carded a score of 130.

That was good enough to give them victory by two strokes over the team of Rick Aston, Trevor Boyce, Ron Madeiros and Karl Madl on 132. Third were Ed Woronicz, David Ezekiel, Sir James Astwood and Stephen Kendell on 133.

Two strokes also separated the top two gross teams, with Billy Bassler, Barry DeCouto, Mark Stearns and Neal Stephens taking top spot on 144, followed on 146 by Whealer Stewart, Zane DeSilva, Roy Mocklow and John Eggman.

There were no takers of the $20,000 car for anyone shooting a hole-in-one on the fifth hole. That prize was open to local amateurs only and Ross Talbot got the closest, putting his tee shot two-feet, eight-inches from the pin.

In other nearest to the pin awards, Barry DeCouto won on number three (four-feet-two-inches) while Philippe Bacon won on number 13 (seven-feet-five-inches) and Hav Trott on the 18th after finishing seven feet from the pin.

Yesterday's charity tournament will see proceeds go towards AIDS.

The week-long Lobster Pot competition continues today at Castle Harbour with the professional and amateur championships which start at 9.28 a.m. There are 17 foursomes.
