West Indian Brian Lara amassed the highest ever individual Test score.

The Bermudians are in St. John's, Antigua, where Lara scored an all-time record 375 runs, against England in the first innings of the fifth and final Test.

Lara's massive total beat the 365 hit by countryman Sir Garfield Sobers 36 years ago. Sobers was on hand to witness his record being broken.

In all, Lara batted for 12 hours and 46 minutes over three days. The 24-year-old left-hander from Trinidad faced 537 balls, and hit 45 fours.

When he hit the four that passed Sobers' record, the pitch was invaded by West Indians who had created a party atmosphere during the entire morning.

Many Bermudians have travelled to see the recent Test matches and hundreds were anticipated in Antigua to celebrate the end of the series, which the West Indies have already won.

Lara's performance will come as some relief to fans who travelled on the Llewrie Travel package trip from Bermuda. The 30 fans were stunned last week to hear the flight would return a day before the five day match ends.

Yesterday offices and restaurants all over Bermuda found themselves with more customers than usual on a Monday lunchtime to witness the piece of history -- which came at exactly 12.46 p.m.
