...While triathlon sets date
yesterday avoided a storm of their own by rescheduling the annual event.
Liz Ward, special events officer for the Bank of Bermuda, confirmed that the 15-mile swim-cycle-run will be held October 20 along the same Hamilton course.
Fearing the triathlon would overlap a host of big-ticket sports events this fall, the organising committee had been considering moving it into November or, worse, shelving it altogther.
But a meeting yesterday came up with two possible dates before finally settling on October 20.
"We checked to ensure that there are no conflicting events and fortunately we were able to schedule the triathlon before the water gets too cold,'' Ward said.
The triathlon committee originally called off the event at 6 a.m. Sunday because of hazardous seas and roads.
One hundred and 13 competitors were entered and there could be more for the new date because the committee has extended the deadline until October 14 at 5 p.m. Entry forms are available at any Bank of Bermuda branch.
One other change is the starting time, pushed back 30 minutes to 8.30 a.m. in order to ensure more daylight.
However the five-kilometre Fun Walk will go ahead at 8 a.m. along the Front Street running course of the triathlon.
