division of the Laser Radial Midwinters West Championship last weekend.

The regatta took place off San Diego, California. Racing was held in light winds with a large ground swell which favoured the local sailors.

This area in the Pacific is known for its kelp beds which added another dimension for all of the visiting sailors.

Still, Lane Wright was able to perform well despite the fact that she did not have any time prior to the regatta to get acquainted with the local conditions.

The Laser Radial fleet was 39 boats strong with talent from all of North America.

In addition to finishing second in the women's division, Lane Wright finished eighth in the overall fleet, beating the men's champion of the last regatta in which she raced, the East Coast Midwinters.
