Writ filed against BTFA
rougher yesterday with a writ being filed against the executive.
The Bermuda Union of Teachers has effectively filed against six officials acting on behalf of the BTFA. Smith and Company represent the BUT.
Last November, representatives of the BUT were barred from entering a BTFA Annual General Meeting by a hired bouncer, in a move thought to be aimed at preventing the overthrow of the executives.
It is known BTFA President Judy Simmons faced a leadership challenge, which, if successful, would have been followed by a major shake-up in the association.
BUT membership includes several physical education teachers. Mrs. Simmons wrote to teachers saying their aims and objectives were not compliant with the BTFA constitution.
The writ concerns the Administration of Justice (Prerogative Writs) Act and an application by the Bermuda Union of Teachers and "Purported Decisions'' of Judith Simmons, Diane Roberts, Gail Scott, Brenda Lake, Garry Wilkinson, and Dr. David Saul for and on behalf of the Bermuda Track and Field Association.
