Young Stars shine through
Western Stars evened their Shell Youth League record at one win and one loss with a 23-run triumph over Cleveland at Harris Bay field on Saturday.
Justin Robinson led the Stars batsmen with 30, which included a six and four fours, while skipper Maurice Lowe hit a patient 24 not out and Ian Armstrong 14. No Cleveland bowler took more than one wicket in the 30-overs match, but Stephen Douglas was impressive in taking one for five runs in six overs.
Cleveland started strongly in search of the runs with Levar Talbot hitting an aggressive 36. But once he and Thomas Smith (12) were out with the score 82 for four, Stars had their way. Talbot hit two sixes and four fours.
Malcolm Woodley led the Stars bowling attack with three for six from six overs while skipper Lowe claimed two for 22. Douglas was the only other Cleveland player in double figures with 11.
Flatts 79 Nationals 81-2 An unbroken 71-run second-wicket partnership between Jamiko Marshall and L.Simmons spurred Nationals to an easy eight-wicket victory over Flatts.
The pair tore apart a Flatts bowling attack that had gained an early breakthrough with the dismissal of openers Omar Allen (three) and Dimitrie Tucker (nought) with just 10 runs on the board.
Marshall in particular was in a belligerent mood, slamming four fours and two sixes in his knock of 43, while Simmons also had four boundaries in his 23.
Earlier, Nationals took advantage of a 10-man Flatts outfit, removing four of their batsmen for ducks. And if not for a defiant 41 by Dennis Zuill the scoreline might have been even more embarassing.
Runiko Hill grabbed three wickets from his four overs while Rio Peniston and McKell DeShields captured two apiece.
Warwick/Paget 75 St. David's 76-1 Burton Outerbridge displayed his all-round ability as St. David's annihilated Warwick/Paget by nine wickets at Southampton Oval.
First Outerbridge, assisted by Rudell Pitcher, ripped through the home team's batting line-up taking three wickets apiece as they bowled out their hosts for a paltry 75. And then, opening his side's innings, Outerbridge blasted an unbeaten 33 to see the Islanders to victory.
Also getting in double figures were skipper Scott Tucker (14) and Jevon Foggo (11).
The only bright spots in the Warwick/Paget innings were Jahqai Morris who made 17 and Kenneth Burns who was not out on 15. Captain Shannon Smith also managed double figures with 11.
Ankoma Cannonier and Quincy Jones were the other St. David's bowlers taking wickets on the day and they were aided in the field by two good catches taken by Angelo Cannonier.
