"This is what I call a fish!'' said Teko Ingham, 14, after catching the approximately 100 pound fish.

He and Shannon Philpott, 13, and Anthony (AJ) Hayward, 12, had spotted the large fish two months ago near Granaway Heights, and had been baiting the fish since then.

But they received a welcome surprise on Sunday while fishing near Shannon's home when they finally hooked the fish.

"I felt like I was in a movie,'' Shannon said of the catch.

He and the other boys used rubber gloves and a super strength 90-pound test line to haul in the fish from a high cliff, 20 feet off the rocks.

The teenagers were "excited and surprised'' to hook the rockfish as they were going after another fish at the time.

But yesterday they said catching the whopper seemed "too good to be true''.

They struggled with the fish for half an hour but managed to pull up the fish and then ran to call neighbour Richard Quinn who helped carry their prize home in a wheelbarrow.
