the midst of a well-deserved break.

But it won't last long.

Light training over Cup Match week will lead to some more intense practice as Bermuda prepare for the World Youth Soccer Championship's CONCACAF qualifier in Trinidad and Tobago, beginning August 18.

Before that, the squad is expected to spend a week training in Florida, youth team coordinator Jon Beard said.

Bermuda, seeing their first international comeptition in two years, are still looking for their first victory after losing 3-1 to the United States south region youth team in a Wednesday night friendly at National Stadium. That followed a loss to the same team the previous night and two losses and two draws at the Internatioal Youth Tournament held here last week.

But despite the loss, Beard says coaches are far from discouraged.

"We accomplished what we set out to do, and that was get our players exposure to a high level of soccer,'' he said. "We showed that even though we're a small place, we can compete at that level.'' The coaching staff is still tinkering with the lineup. Not all of the 17 players who took part in the the recent stretch are assured of a trip to the Caribbean and Beard says that some players who were originally cut will be "reintroduced'' to make sure no mistakes were made.

Jamal Blakeney scored for Bermuda late in Wednesday's game. Bermuda will see many of the same US players at the CONCACAF tournament; they have been drawn in a pool with the US national side, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
