A look at what's coming in the weeks ahead
It is great to be back writing the column after my break due to ISL, Hope4Life and many other events this summer. I am back in Bermuda for a few more days, then will be heading to Baltimore for pre-season training and than to Chicago for an event with NBA and NFL sports legends .
This week I want to let you know what to expect in the weeks ahead.
This summer I have had the honour to be inducted into the Legends of Sports Inside and Out, and have started to be involved with their campaign Champions4Champions, a programme run in America by the father of Atlanta Hawks' Dominique Wilkins.
This group of legends range from former players in the NBA, and NFL, to boxing heavyweight champions and legends from many other sports. I was inducted back in June and things have been very interesting ever since.
The Champions4Champions will be traveling to many events and doing motivational speaking to many community programmes, schools and special events. My involvement came about not just because of my sporting ability, but for the substance behind what I am doing with my Hope4Life project. I will be doing Hope4Life speeches with the legends in 14 of the 28 cities on the tour, and we will be stopping in Bermuda along the way to conduct a Hope4Life youth forum.
In this column I will be keeping you up to date with what happens at the four major sporting events we will be at. So far we are taking the tour to the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star weekend, Men's and Womens NCAA finals and the 2010 US Open at Flushing Meadows.
With legends like Sam Jones (Boston Celtics) Ed"too Tall" Jones (Dallas Cowboys), James "Bone Crusher" Smith, Wali Jones (76ers), Ken Easley ( Seattle Seahawks) and many more!
Getting to share the speaking stage with such great legends has been a great honour and keeping you up to date with our tour should be good.
Also, as many who read the column know I like to help our young people make their voices heard if they are into sports or not.
Over the coming weeks you will get a chance to read about what they are going through from Bermuda and right across the USA.
Their voices are very powerful, and will help us all understand what Generation Y is into, and how we all could bridge that gap and bring Generation X and Generation Y to a better common ground.
This column will also be giving you updates on the Baltimore Blast my professional indoor team in the USA. Keeping you updated with the team will be a must, and as defending champions we will be the team others want to beat this season. Also with some of the selected ISL players coming over to training and trying out, an update on their progress should only encourage others.
Hope4Life has been the driving force behind this column, and a programme that is still in the early stages of building members and affiliation here and around the world. I will be keeping you posted on what we are doing, where we are going, and the effect it is having.
At this time we are still signing people up, and when January comes around we should have met our first target of members and affiliations. Hopefully by that time we will be suppling all members with membership cards and more direction. Also, this will be the same time we release our NEW Hope4Life interactive website which will have great effect on our young people going through any problems with situations that are destroying their life.
