Accent on youth for squad to play Uganda
Bermuda have named a fresh looking squad for their maiden Intercontinental Shield match against Uganda, writes Stephen Wright.
Terryn Fray, Kevon Fubler and Justin Pitcher are among the promising youngsters to have been called up for the four-day game to be played at the National Sports Centre from August 17-20.
Elegant batsman Stephen Outerbridge has been confirmed as vice-captain to new skipper, David Hemp, while all-rounder Malachi Jones will also make his long-awaited return to the national team fold.
Jones said he was surprised at his call-up. "It's always an honour to represent your country. I was looking forward to a national team call-up in the near future as I was selected to train with the guys earlier this summer, so it feels good to be back out.
"It was a surprise when I first found out but I'm glad I'm back in. My school studies have been completed and I'm starting my life as a working individual, so I will hopefully be around for some time to come.
"There's always a lot to learn from the game and playing with those that have been there before me. I want to take my game to the next level as soon as possible."
Glen Blakeney, OJ Pitcher and Stefan Kelly were not been named in the Gus Logie's squad due either to injury, school or family commitments.
Delyone Borden was left out because of personal reasons while Kyle Hodsoll is unavailable due to work commitments.
Bermuda host Uganda in two 50-over matches on August 22 and 23 with play starting at 2 p.m., and on Monday August 24 they will compete in a Twenty20 match at 6.30 p.m. All games will be played at the National Sports Centre.
