Alexander impresses Blast coach
Baltimore Blast coach Danny Kelly has heaped praise upon Bermuda international Logan Alexander for his professional attitude and said the rookie defender had adapted well to the indoor game.
Alexander, 23, has had to be patient since signing for the defending National Indoor Soccer League champions as he only received his immigration paperwork last week.
But now he is available for selection, the Bermuda international will be looking to become a regular starter for the Blast after impressing the team's coaching staff during training with his desire to improve.
He was in the squad for Blast's 7-6 defeat at Monterrey La Raza on Sunday but did not see any match action.
"I like Logan's demeanour, his willingness to take constructive criticism and talk to guys and ask about how he's doing, what he can do better, not only to me but to other players," said Kelly.
"What impressed me about him as a player, new to the indoor game, was just his poise on the ball. He seemed very composed for a guy that was new to the game.
"Left-footed – this is always something we look for – if you can find a good left-footer, because there are so many right-footers. He had good pace and I could just see that he had a knack for the game.
"I think when you're showing that willingness to learn and ask for help, I think you assimilate yourself quickly into the group."
Alexander, who attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), said he was relishing the experience of playing for a professional team and enjoying the camaraderie within the dressing room.
"The first time when I walked on the field, it was a packed house," said Alexander, who was recommended for Blast trials by assistant coach, and former Bermuda international, David Bascome.
"You could see all the fans screaming your name and the air horns and everyone is screaming and you know everyone in that stadium is there for you. It's a great experience, a great feeling."
"The camaraderie the players have, they have a great bond between each other. Practices every day are hard because everyone wants to improve; everyone wants to win another championship. I think it's the mentality they have that makes the Blast the best team in the league."
