Augustus blames mental errors for poor performance

Bermuda professional golfer Daniel Augustus endured a disappointing performance on Tuesday, firing a 75 at the Rio Pinar Golf Course in Orlando, Florida as he finished 13th in a Moonlight Tour event.

The Bermudian, who will play today at Western Orange Golf Club in Winter Garden, has been in Florida for the past week competing in a number of events, including two Moonlight tournaments.

Kyle Pressley of Alabama won the event at Rio Pinar after carding a 65, four shots ahead of Eric Cole of Florida.

Reflecting on his lacklustre performance, Augustus said: "I played Tuesday and shot a 75, a score which didn't place good at all if I did place at all, and it was a poor performance really.

"Mentally my game isn't good and that's where I'm making all my mistakes, mental errors where I just blank out.

"I know it's mental because I'm practising well and playing well outside of tournaments.

"A few under par when I'm playing outside of tournaments but it's a learning curve that I will get through.

"To God be the glory because it could've been a lot worse. Thank God for giving me the talent first of all, as well as my friends and family also for the support along with Port Royal golf course for supporting me also."

Only recently accepted into the ranks of the Professional Golf Association of Bermuda, Augustus has been making a strong showing on the Island's Jack Daniels Golf Tour in recent weeks. But he still wasn't good enough to beat Paul Adams in the latest event.

The Tucker's Point professional carded a two-over par 73 to beat Augustus by three shots at Mid Ocean Club.

Cornell Bean finished a shot further back in third.

Augustus tees off in the second and final Moonlight event today with expectations of doing far better then his performance on Tuesday.
