Bascome has 'too much on his plate' says Blazers coach
Boulevard player/coach Michael Parsons believes that former coach Andrew Bascome had too much on his plate as he tried to juggle up to four jobs at once before relinquishing his job as a national academy coach.
Bascome, who guided Blazers FA Cup glory last year and a runner-up spot in the league, is currently under contract at Saltus Grammar School and Robin Hood and has been seen on the sideline of his former club in recent weeks.
While it seems as though he has had a change of heart and gone back to help the Pembroke side, Parsons believes that the former Bermuda international is trying to do too much at once.
"It is good news to hear he may be back with us for a little while but I see what he is up against in terms of his distractions," said Parsons yesterday.
"I understand completely what he is going through with his schedule, but I think he needs to concentrate on what he really wants to be involved in.
"I don't knock him for training all the teams he has, but he has to set his priorities straight to know what he really wants and I think he knows what he wants but deep down inside he don't want to let people down.
"He has a lot on his plate and I support him in whatever he wants to accomplish.
"I'm not in his shoes but to me I would concentrate on the things that make him happy.
"The man has been through a lot from last season to this season when we had a good season where we won the FA Cup and came second in the league, but this season it seems like it is all over the place."
Bascome was barking orders on the Blazers sideline in their FA Cup defeat on Sunday to Hamilton Parish, and while the side lost the match, Parsons doesn't want people blaming the return of Bascome for the their recent struggles.
Since New Year, the club have been on a downward spiral, losing three of their last four matches with Bascome being present for their last three outings.
Even though they are not in any of the remaining cup competitions and have almost no shot at clawing their way back into the league title picture, the former Bermuda Hogges midfielder still wants his men to put their pride on the line for the rest of the season.
"I'm still licking my wounds from the loss to Hamilton Parish, so we can only play for pride now with Dandy Town being so consistent and North Village and PHC also being there.
"Our season can't be blamed on any coach or anything like that, the players have to be taking responsibility for their actions and how the results happen.
"We have Village coming up and I only want us to come out and play with hunger and pride, no matter who is on the sidelines or in goal or any of the little things that people tend to make as an excuse.
"We want to finish strong."
