Bascome in limbo as league goes under

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) has folded, but hopes to be up and running again in time for next season.

Administrative difficulties meant the league was unable to continue in its present incarnation, and as a result, David Bascome and the Baltimore Blast will be the last champions of the MISL.

Bascome however is unconcerned by the news.

"The league disbanding is not a bad thing when you have full understanding what is going on," Bascome said. "The direction of the MISL and owners seemed to be torn in different ways, which meant that it would have always been in a stand still.

"I have been playing for 17 years and have seen the league go through many changes, from teams folding and league name changes, sometimes you have to make a tough decision to save what you feel is a good product and to protect players.

"Personally, I feel that this change and looking to re-structure would be a better situation for the players in the long run, you have to understand that it is not the clubs folding, it is the league that is being disbandeddue to a restructured one.

Despite the dissolution of the MISL this past weekend, Blast officials yesterday expressed confidence that professional indoor soccer will be played in Baltimore next season under a restructured format.

"Nothing for me would change as I would be back in Baltimore with the Blast.

"I am confident that the Blast would be playing, so as far as me coaching in a new structured league, I would be still looking to do that.

"But as far as playing, well lets say that it would really have to be the right situation for me to enter back on the field, 17 years is a long time and three rings in the last five seasons may be the end of the road for me."
