Battle set for King of the Rock

Bermuda will host the second annual King of the Rock lacrosse tournament at the National Sports Center from next Saturday.

The tournament will conclude the following day with another four games of lacrosse, also from from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Department of Tourism and admission is free.

Young players interested in learning the game are invited to attend the games and learn to pass and catch from some of Bermuda's national players as they take in the action from the sidelines.

Lacrosse in Bermuda has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year since the inaugural King of the Rock event.

The Island enjoyed a finish in the top ten at the 2008 Under-19 World Championships.

The sport has gained government recognition as the Bermuda Lacrosse Association became a National Sports Governing Body, and a youth programme approaching 100 players culminated with the first ever youth Jamboree in Bermuda, featuring teams from Saltus, BHS, and an all-star weekend programme.

The Labour Day event will see some of the highest quality lacrosse ever played on the Island as teams descend to compete for the title.

Many division 1 NCAA and former professional players will be members of teams hailing from New York, Boston, and Ontario.

Thanks to a partnership with M3 Wireless and Inside Lacrosse Magazine fans will have an all access back stage pass to all the action throughout the weekend. Check www.InsideLacrosse.com throughout the weekend for updates.
