BBA to stage coaches clinic
Bermuda Basketball Association (BBA) will host their first International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Level I and II basketbal clinic from October 9 to 15 for anyone interested in becoming a certified FIBA coach.
The BBA have secured instructor Nelson Isley, one of the Olympic Solidarity programme's expert coaches, who has held clinics around the world on behalf of FIBA.
The clinics will be held at CedarBridge at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and at Bermuda College from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
BBA President Allen Walker said he was excited that locals would have the opportunity to become certified coaches.
"We are taking this important step to ensure we are on par with national federations worldwide as it relates to the development of the sport," he said.
"It is vitally important that we provide further development for coaches and those that want to further their coaching knowledge whether it's at the national level, club level, high school or middle school level."
Participants will be exposed to key coaching tools that will increase their knowledge of youth development and coaching, said Walker.
All successful course participants will be qualified to coach national teams at FIBA sanctioned international competitions.
Information covered in the FIBA level I and II course will include developing youth at different age levels, implementing coaching strategies both offensively and defensively, organising training sessions and emphasising the educational role of basketball in youth development.
