Bean returns to boyhood club Village

Welcome home: Keishen Bean (left) has returned to North Village from Somerset Eagles.

Keishen Bean has vowed to score the goals to win North Village the Premier Division title next season after returning to his boyhood club from Somerset Eagles.

The 23-year-old left Bernard Park last summer to team-up with his godfather Kenny Thompson at Eagles and helped them reach the FA Cup final where they lost to Devonshire Cougars.

Although Thompson's recent departure to First Division BAA Wanderers was a huge factor in Bean's decision to quit White Hill Field, he said the lure of linking back up with his 'Red Army family' was too much to resist.

"I'm very excited about rejoining North Village, the prospect of playing with Gumbo (Ralph Bean), Kofi Dill, Sammy (DeGraff), and my favourite Jemeiko Jennings excites me.

"Plus, I will get the chance to play under (Shaun) Goater, who has reassured me that Village is my home. I enjoyed my season at Eagles and I feel that it was important for me to join my godpa Kenny Thompson.

"Kenny leaving Eagles was a huge factor but I believe I would have departed Eagles anyway due to my passion and love I have for my boyhood club, North Village."

In his first full season in charge, Goater led Village to the Dudley Eve and Friendship Trophy titles and finished just one point behind league winners Dandy Town.

And Bean is confident next season Village will be able to go one better and land the Premier Division title which has evaded them since they won the Triple Crown in 2006.

"Village should be strong next season and I think I can help score the goals Village missed this past season," said the Bermuda international.

"Village were one point off the leaders Dandy Town and I am hopeful that I can be the difference this upcoming season."

In an act of unselfishness, Bean quit PDL title challengers Ottawa Fury for the Bermuda Hogges last season but could not prevent the Islanders finishing bottom of the standings.

He said: "As far as the Hogges are concerned I have no comments. I feel that Morty (Scott Morton) and (Derek) Broadley were very professional and team physio Craig Brown was top class," said Bean, who scored three goals for the Hogges.

"As a matter of fact he belongs in the top flight at Barcelona or somewhere.

"I hope North Village can link up with Craig so that he can be the team physio."

Skipper Sammy DeGraff said he was thrilled Bean had decided to return home to North Village.

"To be honest I always felt that North Village was Keishen's home even though he was at Somerset Eagles.

"Obviously it will be great to have him back and we're certainly a stronger side with Keishen in it."
