Bermuda down Panama in Fed Cup

Bermuda's Fed Cup team in Ecuador bounced back after being beaten 3-0 in their opening match this week by Mexico when they downed Panama 2-1 on Wednesday at the National Tennis Club in Guayaquil.

On the clay surface Caitlin Gordon beat Rosaline Chavez 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 but then Alma Rodriguez defeated Jacklyn Lambert 6-3, 6-2 to even the match. In the deciding doubles sisters Jacklyn and playing captain Tara Lambert teamed up to beat Rodriguez and Yeniseik Gomez 6-4, 6-2.

In their opening match this week against powerhouse Mexico Jacklyn Lambert was crushed 6-0, 6-0 while Tara Lambert was also outgunned 6-0, 6-1 and the Lambert sisters lost 6-0, 6-0 in the doubles.

The tournament is a round-robin competition with ten countries in two pools. The top nation in each pool plays-off against runner-up in other pool, with two winning nations promoted to Americas Zone Group I

The countries competing are Bahamas, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago. Bermuda still have to play Guatemala and Peru in their group.
