Bermuda have advanced to the next of the Under-20 World Cup qualifiers after beating Antigua 2-0 in Guadeloupe last night.

Ipswich Town winger Reggie Lambe opened the scoring midway through the second half before Bermuda Hogges midfielder Troy Tucker added a second late on.

Bermuda currently top the group although that could change depending on how host nation Guadeloupe fair tonight against Antigua.

Gary Darrell's side made a superb start to their first round qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against group favourites, and host nation, Guadeloupe on Wednesday night. Dandy Town striker Dante Leverock scored the Island's goal.

A Bermuda Football Association (BFA) statement after that results, read: "We are very proud of our players, in particular, since they represent some of Bermuda's young men who are looking to achieve positive things in their lives.

"For example of the 20 member squad 10 players namely Shannon Burchall, Reiko Trott, Casey Castle, Roger Lee, Quadir Maynard, Naeem Griffith, Errin Simons, Dante Leverock, Stefan Dill and Jair Minors are currently studying overseas in the USA and UK along with Reggie Thompson Lambe who plays for Ipswich Town in the UK.

The remaining players Corey Richardson, Dunte Albouy, Troy Tucker, Jaylon Bather, Lejuan Simmons, Aaron Nelson, Jamel Swan, Rakeem Deshields and Daniel Andrade are completing their high school or Bermuda College studies or making plans to travel overseas to school or working.

"In other words, all of our players are setting our positive example for Bermuda's youth.

"All of Bermuda should be proud of our player's willingness and desire to represent our country international both in a sporting sense as well as through their personal deportment away from the football field."

There are four groups in total in the competition with the winner of each qualifying for the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Guatemala in April.

The runners-up will advance to the second group phase, which has yet to be organised, and that will determine the Caribbean's fifth and final entry in the 12-team Confederations Cup.

Earlier this week Ipswich boss Roy Keane said he may be willing to allow last night's goalscorer Lambe to go out on loan in order to gain more experience.

Keane said: "We've spoken to a club over the last few days about one of the boys but I'm reluctant at the moment. But if it's the right deal and the right club we'll let them go, if you're talking about Jack Ainsley, Seb Dunbar, Lambe or whoever it might be."
