100-metres breaststroke during the Summer National Championships held in Montreal last week.

A member of the Nepean-Kanata Barracudas team, 27-year-old Blackburn won in a time of one minute, 11.77 seconds. Toronto's Julia Pomeroy finished second in 1:12.03.

It was Blackburn's first Canadian championship victory, but fell agonisingly short (half a second) of the qualifying time for the upcoming Pan-Pacific Championships.

Although born in Bermuda, Blackburn is not eligible to represent the Island internationally, having swum for Canada at both junior and senior level.

BASKETBALL TEAM ON TOUR BAS Basketball team on tour A women's basketball team from York University in Ontario, Canada, are set to play the first of two games against a Bermuda Basketball Association select tonight.

The visitors, coached by Bill Pangos, will also be concentrating on pre-season training during their stay on the Island.

And Pangos has agreed to conduct two mini-youth clinics for middle and high school girls while here.

Tonight's game, and another on Friday, will start at 7.00 p.m. at Bermuda College gymnasium.
