Blazers send warning as title hunt hots up
Hamilton Parish 0
Boulevard 4
Three first-half goals ensured Boulevard kept pace with the league leaders as they throttled hapless Hamilton Parish 4-0 at Wellington Oval yesterday.
The scoreline underlined Blazers' dominance in the match, which could have been more if the tricks and theatrics would have been put on the back burner the attacking third.
But the result was never in question with the visitors enjoying the lion's share of possession throughout the 90 minutes.
Blazers started brightly but couldn't find the back of the net for the opening 20 minutes until Dion Stovell started the scoring in the 25th with some brilliant footwork inside the Parish area.
A loose ball fell kindly to the striker just inside the penalty area and he proceeded to beat a defender and slot his effort past 'keeper Nigel Burgess.
Angelo Simmons, the chief menace to the Peppers' back four, gifted Tekhyi Walker the second goal 10 minutes later after he left three defenders trailing down the right flank and fed Walker who clinically finished to double the Blazers' advantage.
Simmons then placed himself in the right spot at the right time to get himself a goal and his side's third right on the stroke of half-time.
The trio of Stovell, Walker and Simmons played a series of touch and move passes that left Simmons unmarked at the back post and he proceeded to put the match beyond doubt with his right footed strike that nestled into the net.
Blazers didn't let their foot off the pedal in the second half as Michael Parsons got his name on the scoresheet in the 48th minute, scoring at the second time of asking off his miss from the spot.
A handball in the Peppers area led to the penalty appeal, with the initial spot kick being saved by Burgess but the rebound fell into the path of Parsons who buried his second effort.
There could have been more goals in this match with Boulevard laying siege on the Peppers goal.
However, tired legs were evident as the match fizzled out with Troishun Walker wasting a wonderful opportunity from some two yards out, having the goal at his mercy.
"It was a good game, we came out and did what we had to do and got a clean sheet which is always important," said Simmons. "We could have scored more goals, but we must continue to work hard in order to win the league.
"The hard work is paying off right now from training, but it was a good match from our point of view. We passed the ball well, which is our normal game, so overall we are happy with the result.
"Complacency didn't set in, our coach instilled in us the point of getting a shutout as the league could come down to goal difference, but we can't become complacent because we haven't won anything yet.
"So we will keep going week by week and push all the way until the end.
"I am expecting us to continue pushing the teams above us because we still have to play both of them and those games can be the deciding factor when it comes to the end of the season.
"But we have to be still in the mix when those games come along. Hopefully when we play those two we can get the results and push on.
"Cougars are a good team that will push to the end so we must do the same."

Devonshire Colts 0 Dandy Town 2
Last-placed Colts had the misfortune of running into an in-form Dandy Town goalkeeper Mikkail Crockwell in this Premier Division clash at Police Field yesterday.
But for his heroics, lowly Colts could have at least come away with a share of the points or perhaps even a win.
Time and time again Colts were denied by Crockwell who dived to save a penalty by player-coach Aljami Zuill after just 10 minutes of play to prevent the hosts from taking an early lead.
Crockwell was to later follow up by falling to snatch the ball from the feet of Shawn Perinchief.
But it was Heys Wolfe who gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after 33 minutes although Colts continued to press forward with imagination and pinned down the Town defence for long periods.
It seemed as though Colts might break through but Crockwell continued show his ability between the sticks as he turned away shot after shot and advanced off his goal-line to slap a menacing cross clear.
However, second-place Hornets made the most of their counter attacks, Sharir Smith extending their lead to 2-0 when he netted after 77 minutes and leave the St. John's Road Field team in the thick of the title hunt.
