BMRC to stage memorial race
Bermuda Motorcycling Racing Club (BMRC) will hold the Kyle Pimental Memorial Race this weekend in memory of the popular young rider who lost his battle with cancer 12 months ago.
Pimental was only 22 years old when he died and spent 10 years riding at the BMRC who he joined when his parents moved to Bermuda from the UK.
During his three-year fight with cancer, the BMRC helped raise money to pay for the 125cc rider's treatment and will host the event at Southside speedway in St.David's on Sunday, starting at 2 p.m.
Part of the proceeds raised will be donated to PALS, a charity which allows cancer patients to remain in their homes rather than in hospital.
This weekend's meeting follows on from the Marvin (Skinny) Robinson Memorial Race, which the BMRC staged at the start of the season. Champion rider Robinson was killed while practising at Southside just a few months before club-mate Pimental died.
BMRC spokesman Paul DeCouto described Pimental as a gifted rider who had been greatly missed by everyone involved with the club.
"Kyle was a really friendly and helpful guy," said DeCouto. "He was a very fast rider and had a unique way of taking corners."
* The BMRC are appealing for the return of a sandwich board used to advertise their race meetings, which was removed from near the Johnny Barnes statue over a week ago.
