Boyles, Adams to coach Cougars
Devonshire Recreation Club (DRC) executive Vance Brown is confident new coach Devarr Boyles is the right man for the job as the club seek to turn over a new leaf.
According to vice-president and sports chairman Brown, the Premier Division club have made efforts to upgrade their infrastructure and have called on the valued services of a man of Boyle's calibre to lead the cause.
Boyles, who won league and cup honours before resigning at Dandy Town last season, will be assisted by ex-national team team-mate Dwayne (Streaker) Adams during the upcoming season at the Den.
"We are in the process of promoting a positive structure around our club. We recognised that we needed a highly motivated person to be the leader of our team," Brown stated.
"This season we will have some very talented young players that will need the experience, guidance and knowledge from Devarr and Dwayne.
"Boyles has a proven track record in the Premier Division and at cup competition levels. He not only brings success but is regarded as one of the Island's most highly motivated and knowledgeable coaches in today's game."
Brown also rates former North Village and Southampton Rangers coach Adams highly.
"Adams is equally experienced and we feel these two coaches will take our programme to the next level," he said.
Cougars were forced to find a suitable replacement for former coach Shawn Smith who stood down from the post during the summer off-season due what he termed as "personal reasons" – though it is known the ex-Cougars sweeper did not see eye-to-eye with his superiors at the Den.
During his tenure, Smith was able to build on the solid foundation laid by the predecessors Albert Smith and Andrew Bascome who have helped establish the club as a dominant force in the new millennium. And he his confident Boyles – Cougars' fourth coach in six seasons – can carry on in the same vein.
"I think having Boyles onboard is a good thing because he comes with fresh ideas and he is well organised. It's probably a good challenge for him as well," Smith said.
