A second-half strike by Jamal Boyles saw North Village past a battling Robin Hood in closely fought FA Cup quarter-final replay at Devonshire Rec. last night.

Hood made life difficult for their Premier Division opponents throughout the match before Boyles converted substitute Vernon Tankard's left-wing cross midway through the second period.

Village had the better chances with skipper Sammy DeGraff hitting the woodwork in the first half and Ralph Bean having a goal disallowed for offside after the interval.

Village coach Shaun Goater described the encounter as "a typical cup match" and praised Hood for their resilience.

"Hood are a very committed and organised side," said Goater.

"They came with a game plan which nearly worked, they made life difficult for us.

"It was a typical cup match and in the end our extra experience told.

"We had to deal with their supporters shouting against us but we stayed strong and came through."

Village's reward for beating Hood will be a semi-final tie against Devonshire Cougars.

Goater added: "It will certainly be a tough game. Cougars are a strong team."
