Bromby continues fine form
Four-time Bermuda Olympian, Peter Bromby, had another superb day on the water at the Bacardi Cup Star Class Regatta on Biscayne Bay in Miami yesterday finishing in second place following their third-place finish on Tuesday.
Bromby and crew Magnus Liljedahl from America started the regatta with a 52nd place finish in Monday's opening race but then have quickly climbed up the ladder and now sit in 13th place. They are also the defending champions of this regatta which is acknowledged as one of the best international sailing regattas in the world.
Ten years ago Bromby and Liljedahl were fierce competitors at the Sydney Olympics where the Bermudian just missed out on a medal finishing in fourth place.
Leading the Bacardi Cup after yesterday's third race is the team of Andy Horton and James Lyne from the US while Ireland's Peter O'Leary and Stephen Milne are second with Americans Rick Merriman and Phil Trinter third.
n Meanwhile a team of Bermuda Youth Olympic hopefuls are set to start racing in the North American and Caribbean regional qualifying event in the Byte CII class today in the Cayman Islands.
Sixteen countries will compete in the event which is also the Byte CII North American Championships and four spots for the Youth Games in Singapore in August are up for grabs.
Among the Bermuda sailors in the Cayman Islands are Kalin Hillier, Mackenzie Cooper, Alex Davis, Rahiem Steede, Omen Siese and Dimitri Steven who who have all come out of the Optimist dinghy class.
