Budgies made to pay for player shortage
Women's 'A' Division
Budgies 1 Swifts 2
Swifts claimed another hard fought victory, this time over a shorthanded Budgies team.
Alex Francis got Swifts off to the perfect start, scoring midway through the first half.
Budgies' defence began pushing forward with Lakae Dill, Keishae Robinson and Stephanie Adderey in midfield using the width of the pitch to keep possession and were rewarded for their hard work when Dill levelled the score.
But Swifts grabbed all the points late in the game after the Budgies let their guard down and were made to pay for their shortage of players.
Ravens 7 Swallows 2
Braces from Alex Wheatley, Megan Leitch and Katie Master guided Ravens to this drubbing of Swallows.
Wheatley converted in the 15th and 17th minutes to get the Ravens off to the best possible start before Katie Masters tipped a shot going wide.
Masters struck her second in the 39th while Emma Simmons put her name on the scoresheet in the 45th minute with a reverse shot from the left hand side.
Leitch was able to put another goal past Swallows in the 56th minute although the hapless Swallows did manage to score two goals in the 59th and 68th minutes courtesy of Joanna Heaney and Liz Stewart.
With two minutes remaining, Leitch netted another to complete the scoring.
Women's 'B' Division
Swifts 4 Canaries 0
Swifts scored three goals in the opening 10 minutes which set up a confortable victory.
Before Canaries could get themselves into the match the score was 3-0 and they were down 4-0 after 22 minutes.
Bluebirds 3 Ravens 0
A double from Deborah Sagurs and a solo strike from Sarah Smith spurred Bluebirds to this victory.
Bluebirds opened the scoring from Sagurs and Smith then netted a great solo goal.
Sagurs then made it 3-0 after a pass from Lisa Fontanetta near the top of the circle.
Bluebirds' defence played well to help Vicki Johnston keep a clean sheet.
Cardinals 2 Swallows 1
Cardinals emerged winners in a close and competitive match.
Swallows scored first before Cardinals capitalised on a short corner as Adrien Smith found the net.
The second half saw a stronger performance by Cardinals who controlled much of the play.
They took the lead as Caroline Gledhill deflected a shot on goal by Helen Marshall on another short corner.
The only other match to take place over the weekend was the men's game between Rebels and Panthers which saw Rebels winning 4-3.
