Burgess 'happier' playing as winger
Bermuda Hogges' Tyrell Burgess has admitted he feels far more comfortable when deployed as a flying winger as opposed to the front man role he was forced to fill earlier in the season.
Burgess' frustrations at playing out of position boiled over in Hogges' defeat against Ocean City at home when he was sent off for a late challenge.
He has since been moved back to his favoured wide position by head coach Scott Morton and was infinitely more effective during Hogges' recent road trip of New Jersey.
Dropping back down to the amateur PDL level from the pro ranks at Vancouver Whitecaps has been a difficult adjustment for the 24-year-old, but he reckons he has started to rediscover his form heading into tomorrow's game against Ironbound Express at BAA Field.
"Things clicked for me a bit more on the last away trip and the wide position is my preferred position," said the Bermuda international.
"I was playing up front for a little bit to help the team out but it's more natural for me to play on either flank.
"The levels are a lot different between the PDL and the USL-D1. You're dealing with a lot younger guys in the PDL.
"It's still a hard level though but there's definitely a difference especially in terms of the age of the players. You're playing against boys and not men."
The North Village player is currently looking for a route back into professional football and has been handed pre-season trials by English Conference side Gateshead.
Last term saw Burgess make 23 appearances for Whitecaps, scoring one goal, before being released by the Canadian outfit who will join the MLS next year.
