Butterfield fifth in New Hampshire
Bermuda's Tyler Butterfield kept up his strong showing in the professional division of the triathlon when he finished in fifth place yesterday in the Ironman 70.3 Mooseman in New Hampshire.
Butterfield has been having a superb year on the pro circuit and placed fifth at the Memorial Hermann Ironman on Galveston Island, Texas and third in the St. Croix Ironman recently.
And before going to New Hampshire, he returned to Bermuda to take part in the Tokio Millennium Sprint Triathlon put on by his sponsors and also took part in the May 24 Half Marathon Derby.
Not surprisingly he won the Tokio event and placed second on May 24.
The Ironman Mooseman took place in a classic New England setting – pristine lake, country roads, farm houses and village greens.
Butterfield completed the 1.2 mile fresh water swim in the chilly Newfound Lake in 25 minutes and 17 seconds and then took two hours, 23 minutes and 49 seconds to complete the 56-mile spectacular, scenic two-loop course on the shores of Newfound Lake.
He did the 13.1 mile run in one hour, 20 minutes and 19 seconds for a total time of four hours, 11 minutes and 12 seconds.
The 27-year-old former Olympian now heads back to his base in Colorado.
Winning the Ironman yesterday was Maksym Kriat in a time of 4:01.12 while second place was taken by Graham O'Grady in 4:02.44. Third was Matty White in 4:06.16 while fourth place was Tim Berkel in 4:06.23.
