Butterfield: We don't fear rivals Cougars
Devonshire Colts captain Joseph Butterfield insists there isn't any love lost between his side and defending champions Devonshire Cougars as the arch-rivals prepare to clash for the first time this season at Devonshire Rec. tonight.
Defender Butterfield is sick and tired of Cougars' monopoly on the battle of the bragging rights and has urged his team-mates to follow up their win over PHC by capturing another prized scalp.
"There isn't any love lost, we will be looking to win and that's the bottom of it," said Butterfield.
"I haven't seen how they play as of late so I don't know the differences between us and them.
"But I do know that we're ready to play and give our best and have a good chance of winning. It would be lovely to beat them, it would be good for the whole club.
"We hadn't won a league game in a whole season so to turn around and win two in a row would be nice for us right now."
Earlier this week Colts coach Keishon Smith felt his men were finally beginning to reap the rewards of hard work after their first win of the season over Zebras last weekend.
That win couldn't have come at a better time ahead of the Devonshire derby and Smith wants his team to dethrone the defending champions as the Kings of Devonshire.
"Not too long ago we were in their shoes as the top dogs, the Kings of Devonshire with a team like Jermaine and Quincy Aberdeen, myself and Marvin Belboda," said Smith.
"We're playing the defending champions and we will pay them respect, whether or not other teams do that to us will not affect us."
Skipper Butterfield has echoed the thoughts of his coach and went even further, saying Colts had no fear of their neighbours and that the football fraternity should be surprised if they win the match.
"Cougars aren't really a threat to us," added Butterfield.
"We are playing some good football right now so it can go either way on the night.
"If we can put our chances away we will be ok come the final whistle."
Colts take on Cougars at the Rec. at 9 p.m, while Wolves play St.George's at 7 p.m in the night's opening match.
Both games will be played at Devonshire Rec.
