Calderon almost ready to name top BFA officials

Newly-elected Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president Richard Calderon suggested yesterday that the appointment of chairpersons for the association's various committees could be finalised by the end of next week.

Calderon, who swept incumbent Larry Mussenden aside during this week's elections for the BFA's top post, has hit the ground running since taking over the reins, getting himself up to speed in the day-to-day handling of local football's governing body.

He has already indicated that revisions to the BFA's existing six-year strategic plan to move the local game forward remain high on the agenda as well as human and financial resource audits which are also expected to be completed in the near future.

The former North Village, Vasco da Gama and Bermuda international crushed predecessor Mussenden by a landslide 15-6 vote during the BFA's Annual General Meeting held at Young Men's Social Club earlier this week.

Speaking to The Royal Gazette, Calderon said: "As it has only been four days since the new BFA executive were elected into office there a number of critical and time sensitive matters that we have to address.

"In order to move forward in the most expeditious and efficient manner we have been very busy working with the salaried staff at the BFA getting brought up to speed.

"With regard to the selection of the chairpersons for the various BFA committees, suffice to say that we are carefully looking at the specific terms of reference, those heading each committee and specific members and the strategic plans outlined for the next fiscal calendar.

"We anticipate being in a position to announce the make-up of all committees within seven to ten days. In the interim the work will not stop."
