Cann, Leverock included as coach Moore announces training squad
Bermuda head cricket coach David Moore has opted for a healthy mix of youth and experience in his latest national team training squad.
The 33-strong group includes the likes of Lionel Cann, Dwayne Leverock and Sammy Robinson, alongside Cleveland duo Dennis Musson Jnr and Damali Bell.
In all there are five members of the Under-19s team in the squad, while established players such as Stephen Outerbridge, Rodney Trott and Delyone Borden also make the cut.
Brought together to prepare for the ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Dubai next April, Moore selected a squad he believes contains the best players on the Island.
"The squad has been selected to cover all positions thoroughly, to provide competition for all players and to reward players that have been previously outside the squad for their performances during last year's domestic season and the All Star series," said Moore.
"It is encouraging to see five players from the Under-19 programme as part of the squad and with the addition of some more experienced players, the squad is gaining a nice balance.
Making the squad though will be the easy part. The players will now be put through a punishing winter training schedule, which is expected to include a New Year's trip to Dubai.
"The hard work starts now," said Moore. "Leading into the World Cricket League Qualifiers in Dubai the team has a heavy training and playing commitment that includes a potential trip to Dubai for a camp and matches in December and January as well as a heavy domestic training programme which includes technical, tactical and strength and conditioning sessions.
"This will require a high level of commitment from all players."
And while the recent changes to the structure of the World Cup have made it twice as hard for Bermuda to qualify for the event, that doesn't mean there will be any change to the standards the Australian expects of his players.
"The team philosophy and culture that we are building together has not changed and will not change," he said. "Only those players that are willing to commit to the programme, the team and the supporters of Bermuda cricket will be selected in the final team.
"This group must understand and appreciate the important role that they will play in determining the international cricket future of Bermuda. The standards that have been set are extremely high and only those that can achieve and maintain them will make it through.
"The players understand that their ability or potential makes up only a very small amount of what it will take to make the final cut and I firmly believe that those players that make it will have demonstrated the commitment and hard work required to be at the top of their game to compete internationally."
