West End United 4

MR Onions 0

West End United continued their rich vein of form as they comfortably dispatched MR Onions.

United, who had a week to remember after booking their spot in the first ever Corona League Bistro Cup, finished the week with one of the best goals of the season so far from Matthew Carvelho.

Carvelho swivelled and in one motion jumped off the ground and thrashed a side volley into the Onions net to make it 1-0.

Eugene Simmons then scored twice in the second half to give United a comfortable lead and the finishing touch was put on by the ever dangerous Francis DeSilva jr. who ended the goalscoring for the night.

A good save by United's Chris Bromby between the sticks preserved the shut-out as he pushed a hard strike over the post.

Lobster Pot 2

Fire FC 2

Fire FC took advantage of a lacklustre Lobster Pot to grab a 2-2 draw.

Veteran Colin James put Lobster Pot ahead on 10 minutes after getting on the end of a Kevin Warner cross with a looping header from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Fire responded straight back with a volley from 20 yards out from Mark Ray which left Pot 'keeper Khabir Dill with no chance.

Jamie Matthews restored Pot's lead on 30 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box on the left hand side that caught the Fire 'keeper out of position.

But Pot were never comfortable with that lead as evidenced in two incidents withinnn the space of 10 minutes.

First, Jim McLaren was brought down intentionally by a Fire player after taking control of the play in midfield.

Kevin Warner picked up the loose ball, rounded the keeper on the by-line to slot home what Pot players thought was a deserved goal after play was allowed to continue. However, the referee blew for a free kick, not awarding the goal.

On 40 minutes Stephen Palmer thought he had given the Pot a 3-1 lead from a free kick. But again the referee disallowed the goal indicating that one of the Pot players was in an offside position when the ball was kicked.

Fire were the better team in the second half and after 60 minutes they got the equaliser, breaking through the defence for Mark Pacheco to snatch a point.

Fire then could have won it at the death from a corner but Gary Richardson was on hand to make a desperate a goal-line clearance.
