Castle banned by Zebras

PHC assistant coach Jack Castle has been banned for two months for "disorderly conduct", The Royal Gazette can reveal.

PHC executives met last week to decide the former Zebras defender's fate after he was brought up on charges of throwing a drink in the face of club official Pat Seymour during a heated argument at a Warwick bar on the evening of October 19.

In a letter obtained by this newspaper, PHC disciplinary committee chairman Michael Trott wrote: "I have been directed to inform you (Castle) that as a result of reports submitted and an inquiry conducted for the above incident your behaviour has been brought into question. The following charge has been laid against you: Disorderly Conduct–- throwing a drink on Ms Pat Seymour.

"As a consequence of the above, an executive meeting was held December 4, 2008, where the disciplinary committee presented its findings and recommendations. Based on the reports and inquiry it is our determination by an executive vote that you have committed these charges."

Trott added: "You have demonstrated a lack of judgment, responsibility and accountability in the role which the Pembroke Hamilton Club has charged you and your conduct is so serious that it has to suspend you from Pembroke Hamilton Club coaching responsibilities for a period of two months commencing November 25 (2008) and ending January 25, 2009."

Additionally, upon completion of his ban Castle's conduct is to be closely monitored and his coaching expertise re-evaluated by club vice-president and sports chairman Mark Wade.

"If you (Castle) are found acting in a manner that is in breach of the Pembroke Hamilton Club's constitution of a similar nature during this period, further disciplinary action will be taken against you which could include dismissal. Please be advised you are to turn in all property that belongs to the Pembroke Hamilton Club by December 5," added Trott.

A PHC disciplinary committee had originally banned Castle for six months last month. But an appeals committee later quashed the controversial coach's ban on a technicality and summoned Castle to re-appear before a disciplinary committee to answer to the same charges.

Castle, who has declined to comment on the matter, has vowed to appeal against his ban, which he is entitled to do so under the club's constitution. PHC executive Wade did not return calls yesterday.

n Kyle Lightbourne yesterday denied that he had resigned as PHC coach following their defeat to Devonshire Cougars last week. Reports reached The Royal Gazette sports desk over the weekend that Lightbourne had initially stepped down as coach before changing his decision after holding talks with Zebras' hierarchy.
