Castle wants to tighten defence

Jack Castle is confident he and Kyle Lightbourne can work their PHC magic with Bermuda Hogges, writes Stephen Wright.

Castle, Hogges' new assistant coach, served as Lightbourne's trusted lieutentant during PHC's memorable triple winning trophy 2007-08 season and wants to create a similar winning environment with the Hogges.

"It's definitely a pleasure to be working with Bermuda Hogges,"said Castle, who has replaced Shaun Goater as assistant coach with the ex-Man City ace looking to devote more time to helping co-owner Paul Scope improve the franchise's business foundations.

"It's good to be back with Kyle and I'm looking forward to bringing my coaching expertise to the fold.

"We enjoyed some good times at PHC together and won trophies and hopefully we can enjoy some success with the Hogges."

Castle has been a regular at Hogges' home matches at the National Sports Centre over the last two years and believes he has a good gauge of the USL-D2 standard.

"I've seen Hogges play many times in the USL-D2 and so I know what to expect in terms of the standard of the other teams and the style of play we will be up against. We need to become defensively stronger and a tighter unit – those are some of the things we've been working on.

"I'm excited to be working at this level. Every game for Hogges is like an international match."

Castle is no stranger to controversy having been sacked as assistant by ex-Bermuda coach Keith Tucker, whose tactics he strongly criticised.

He also severed ties with Zebras earlier this season after being handed a two-month ban for disorderly conduct and has recently been helping out Premier Division side Hamilton Parish.
