Domico Coddington headed a second half goal as Bermuda Hogges returned to winning ways at the National Sports Centre last night.

Coddington notched his fourth goal of the season by nodding home Jared Peniston's 77th minute cross to give Hogges their third win in five home matches.

Hogges created chances throughout the game with a much-improved Antan Russell hitting the crossbar from close range, while substitute Jamie Smith should have done better from a Damon Ming corner-kick.

Monarchs' best openings fell late on as Hogges lived dangerously with Kevin Richards clearing off the line from a Tom Taylor effort and goalkeeper Jason Williams denying Jim Stevens with a smart save.

The visitors were also unlucky to see Ryan Cordeiro have a goal disallowed for offside midway through the first-half.

Hogges coach Kyle Lightbourne said it was vital his team finished their batch of home matches with a victory.

"It was a big win for us and we've now taken ten points from our last five matches at home. It's so important to win your home and it was good to see Domico score," he said.

"I said before the game that he needed to go on a scoring run for us again. I think he only had one chance for us today but he put it away with a good header."

With around 20 minutes to go Hogges switched from a 5-3-2 formation to a 4-4-2 as Lightbourne introduced wingers Lashun Dill and Damon Ming. Both players had an immediate impact with their performances drawing praise from their coach.

"I always thought Lashun and Damon could inject a new life into us and gave us a real lift in the second half," he said.

Hogges next four matches are in the US and Lightbourne is confident they can improve upon their disappointing away form.

"Now we have something to build on I believe we can go and pick up points away from home. We've got a settled team now and are feeling confident."

Hogges travel to Wilmington Hammerheads on June 5, and Charlotte Eagles the following day.
