Confident Hood target league success

Robin Hood midfielder Teddy Terceira is confident his side will pick up the pieces after their FA Cup replay loss to North Village on Tuesday night and continue their strong run for promotion.

The First Division new boys suffered FA Cup heartbreak as they went down 1-0, with the initial match ending 0-0.

The side must now shake off the disappointment of falling short in the prestigious tournament and refocus their energy on gaining promotion, something that they believe is within their grasp.

Terceira, who featured prominently in both matches against the Premier Division giants, is confident that the side have what it takes to get back on track, noting that the experience of playing the big guns on the island gave the squad valuable experience.

"It was disappointing in terms of the result but we showed a lot of character in getting to a replay and making it difficult for them," said Terceira. "They obviously had the lions' share of the possession but we had a break here and there and if we could have taken them it could have been a different story.

"We can be proud of our displays and look to take this confidence into our next five games, which will have a huge bearing on our promotion bid.

"The FA Cup run was a lot of fun and gave us the experience to play against bigger teams."

Hood had knocked out Southampton Rangers in their previous cup match.

"We are happy with that, it gave us something else to look forward to and get our focus off the league and show they we can compete with the big names."

Although they weren't able to continue their Cinderella run and advance to a semi-final tie against Devonshire Cougars, Hood can take comfort from the strides they have taken to put themselves on the domestic map.

Formerly a Commercial League side, Hood now have realistic expectations of making history as being the first club to get promoted at the first time of asking.

They now face key clashes against St. George's and St. David's with both of the latter also looking for top flight status.

"The run we went on showed not only ourselves but the whole island that we can be successful," added Terceira, "and going forward we will have to take the same mentality and mindset into the showdowns with St. David's and St. George's.

"All these games will be taken like cup games and we have a few weeks now to get ready for our run-in and a match against X'Roads, so we will use this time to regain fitness and get back healthy. We have to play as we did against Village.

"We are all excited about this and the season is closing quickly so if we can put in the effort and work as a team we can get into one of the promotion spots."

n A total team effort helped Valley FC as they won their first round Bistro Cup game 5-1 over Prison Officers on Tuesday night.

Goals from Craig Darrell, Sinclair Vickers, Troy Simons, Ruffins Hill and Keimon Lawrence paced the side to a showdown with BAA on Saturday.

Shawn York got Officers lone goal.
