Cricketers stake claim for Americas selection
Bermuda's national cricketers returned to training this week with one aim in mind – making the squad for next month's ICC Americas Regional Championship.
With an intital squad of up to 19 players due to be announced next Tuesday, a host of senior and Under-19 squad members were put through their paces at the National Sports Centre.
Coaches Arnold and Andre Manders face a tough task in whittling down the squad as they will have to do so without the benefit of playing a practice match.
The wicket at North Field is still not ready to be used, which means that the intial squad of 19 is likely to be made up of the 14 players that travelled to South Africa and Namibia, plus the likes of Dion Stovell and Joshua Gilbert, who were stand-bys for the tour.
With head coach David Moore due to arrive on the Island early next week, the squad will eventually be trimmed to the 14 players allowed under the rules of the tournament, which begins on May 28.
