Crockwell's spirit gave us strength

FA Cup winners Boulevard pose with the trophy and photograph of the late Shaki Crockwell.

Boulevard players Ajani Gibbons and Angelo Simmons paid tribute to their side's team harmony and dedication throughout the season that culminated in a famous 5-3 FA Cup final victory over Dandy Town.

The squad was a tight knit group throughout the season and capped off a consistent campaign with a memorable FA Cup triumph on Sunday.

Striker Simmons said that the fuel behind the side no matter what the situation was their former talismanic striker Shaki Crockwell who was killed in 2007.

Crockwell, who captained the side in their FA Cup final loss to Devonshire Colts two years ago, would have been more then pleased with Blazers' dominant performance.

Simmons, Crockwell's former strike partner, has taken the scoring duties on his shoulders this year and was quick to point out that his former team-mate was still in the hearts of the whole side.

"We came here to win, it was a good game but the better team won on the day," said Simmons. "Hard work pays off and today was a testament to that and what we have instilled in ourselves.

"It was very important to get the early goal.

"We wanted to keep the tempo up and make it a high paced game that would benefit us, so we just did what the coach asked.

"This is for Shaq (Crockwell) and all others from the club and community that have passed away in recent years.

"This is for them."

Gibbons went one step further and acknowledged the whole community of Boulevard and their dedication to the team week in and week out.

It was evident when the two sides took the field that the Blazers contingent were out to support their team with air horns buzzing and the team's flags flying proudly throughout the match.

Gibbons stated that in the end it wasn't about the individual performances, but what everyone did for the team.

"We earned this as a team, we came to play and did what we needed to do," said Gibbons.

"Before we left Grotto Bay this morning we agreed that we had to win something this year and we got the job done.

"When you look at our overall body of work, we came in the league, runners up in Dudley Eve and won the FA, you can see we were consistent throughout the year.

"In the end we feel it is only right that we won this trophy.

"This is a big trophy for both the club and the community, we needed to get something for the fans and as you can see today they are out in full force.

"No matter where we go to play, our fans travel east to west because we are a representation of them and will always try to do the best for them."
