Crumpler inspires Bear Cats
Paget Bear Cats 46
Hamilton Chargers 40
A Chris Crumpler-inspired Paget Bear Cats held their nerve to come away with a six point win over Hamilton Parish Chargers 46-40 at Bermuda College.
The Chargers had no answer for Crumpler on Saturday night, whose second half performance earned his side an encouraging victory, taking their record to five and four.
The Hamilton side came out of the gates strong, led by their tall centre Shawn Brown, and scored fast and frequent in the first three minutes.
However, Crumpler kept the young Bear Cats close after scoring a pair of three pointers to close the half-time lead to five.
In the second half, Crumpler's offensive play proved to be too much for the Chargers to contain as he dribbled through the heart of their defence to set up Raees Tankard for three three-pointers to take a 42-36 lead with two minutes remaining.
A costly turnover by Mike Smith with one minute remaining helped seal the deal as Paget Bear Cats defeated the now four and five Chargers, 46-40.
Bear Cats' top scorers were Crumper with 22 points and Raees Tankard with 11 points.
Shawn Brown top scored for Chargers with 11 points, while Chae Powell scored 10 points
Hamilton Tsunamis 72
Devonshire Dragons 30
Straight from the tip off Hamilton Tsunamis came out all guns blazing, scoring a series of easy lay-ups and jump shots to take a quick 12-0 lead in the early stages of the game.
Ian Lim, of the Dragons, tried to slow down the momentum by taking the scoring duties on his shoulder, but the hot shooting of the Tsunamis' Shawn Palmer, who had 13 first half points, gave Hamilton Tsunami's a 30-12 lead at half-time.
In the second half, through the aggressive play of forward John Lee, the Dragons went on an 8-0 bring the score to 33-20, but that was the closest they got as Palmer continued his streaky play as his side ran out to 72-30 over Dragons.
Hamilton improve to six and three, while Devonshire drop to four and four.
Top scorers for Tsunamis were Shawn Palmer with 28 points and John Noseworthy with 15 points.
For Dragons, John Lee scored 15 points and Ian Lim nine points.
