Defending champs stumble
round of the Founder's Trophy at a rainswept Mid Ocean Club.
Bermuda's Robert Vallis and Florida's Jack White, sharing the lead overnight after Monday's 61, could only muster an even-par net 71 yesterday.
The team sharing the lead with them, Bermuda's Terry West and Canada's Neil Lumsden fared even worse, their 74 putting them in joint sixth place, six shots off the lead.
That was held by the pairing of Ricky Lines, of Bermuda, and another Floridian Gerald Goodman, who shot a second 64 despite the conditions for a total of 128.
That total put them three strokes clear of their nearest rivals after a round played under the Pinehurst format. The 72-hole event reverts to the better ball format again tomorrow.
Second place was held by another Bermuda-Florida duo in Hugh Barit and Lou Bachrodt, who carded a 65 to go with their first day 66. Barit and Bachrodt hold the lead in the gross division with Vallis and White second, a stroke behind.
The pairing of Bermuda-based tennis star Patrick Rafter and Kevin Petty had a net 74 to leave them on 140 for the tournament, 12 strokes off the lead.
